Municipality of Vari – Voula – Vouliagmeni: The first system of common electric vehicles

The Municipality of Vari Voula Vouliagmeni takes the significant lead being the first one to install the municipal charging system for electric vehicles in Attica and at the same time, the first one to inaugurate the system of common electric cars.

The first installation took place at Voulas Square. The system is powered exclusively by renewable energy sources and is enhanced by a panel of photovoltaic cells. A total of 10 charging stations will be installed at the Municipality, divided into three municipal units, in central parking lots. The charging will be free only for the common electric cars of the Municipality. The cost for the equipment of the chargers, the infrastructure works for their installation as well as for the electricity they consume, is borne by the provider, ie the Hellenic Public Power Corporation (PPC), while each station has the potential to charge two vehicles at the same time.

“It is our intention to continue and intensify the actions for a green Municipality, so as to far exceed the objectives set out in the Covenant of Mayors 2030 for the Greenhouse Gas Emissions”, underlines the Mayor, Mr Grigoris Konstandellos.

The system of common electric cars, in combination with the municipal charging stations, offers a very cheap transportation alternative for citizens and visitors of the three towns.

The rental of common cars in the Municipality of Vari Voula Vouliagmeni costs less than the rental of electric skates in the center of Athens.

Mr Grigoris Konstandellos aims at the gradual replacement of the municipal vehicles fleet with environmentally friendly ones, with zero ecological footprint in order to further reduce the greenhouse gas emissions, which the current municipal administration has already reduced by 34% according to a study carried out by the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA).

The message of the whole initiative is twofold. Electromobility will be the cheap, but also environmentally proper, alternative form of transportation in the future.
